Earshot – Wait (album: Two)

Wait is the breakthrough single from alternative metal band Earshot’s second album Two. It was the lead single released off the album in 2004, and was the music track that brought the band into the mainstream. The song was not as successful as the debut single of the band, ‘Get Away’, but was considerably more popular as a fan favourite during live shows. It charted at #13 and #33 on Mainstream Rock Charts and Modern Rock Charts, respectively. Despite the emotional and torpid lyrical style, the song’s riffs are comparatively tempestuous and strong. The music video of the song features the band playing on a grass-laden area.

This is War is the first track off the alternative metal band Ill Nino’s third studio album, titled One Nation Underground, released in late 2005. The track is 3 minutes and 46 seconds long, and has been characterized as one of the more elegant yet forceful songs on the album. It mixes powerful guitar riffs and bass lines with a mellowed-down guitar solo, achieving the contrasting effect of alternative and tribal metal. The album itself was successful with a chart position of #101 in Billboard Top 200. The song, however, sounds a bit like a Damageplan track, at least its main guitar riff.

P.O.D. – Mistakes & Glories (album: Testify)

Mistakes and Glories is the eighth track of the successful P.O.D. album Testify, released in 2005. Although never released as a single, the song was probably one of the most hyped tracks from the alternative metal band P.O.D, and received a fair share of limelight. Although the album had hit singles such as Goodbye For Now and Lights Out, Mistakes and Glories was praised by critics too. The song was supposed to have Jonathan Davis of Korn perform as the backup vocalist, but the idea did not materialize due to scheduling conflicts of the guest artist. Guitarist Jason Truby filled in for Davis instead.
