London Calling is the lead single of the influential punk rock band The Clash’s double album of the same name. It was released in late 1979 and is considered one of the most politically charged and influential punk rock tracks of all time. Written and composed by vocalist Joe Strummer and lead guitarist Mick Jones respectively, it has been covered innumerable times by bands from different genres down the line. The song is best known for its symbolic usage of punk guitars and reggae basslines, a signature composition of the band at the time. The song was played by the who’s who of the music industry at the 2003 Grammy Awards, commemorating the death of vocalist Joe Strummer.
